What to Do on Bonaire: 15 Must-Do Activities

Planning a trip to Bonaire and wondering what to do?

After living on the island for several months, we discovered that Bonaire is not about busy attractions or crowded resorts — it’s about nature, freedom, and a relaxed pace of life.

Whether you’re visiting for diving, relaxing, or exploring, here are 15 must-do activities in Bonaire to make the most of your stay.

1. Go Shore Diving 🤿

Bonaire is world-famous for its shore diving.

You can literally park your car, gear up, and walk straight into the water — no boat needed. It’s one of the easiest and most relaxed diving experiences in the world.

2. Snorkel at Bachelor’s Beach

One of our personal favorites.

This spot is perfect for snorkeling, with clear water and easy access. It’s also one of those places that feels peaceful and uncrowded.

3. Visit Te Amo Beach 🏝️

Located close to the airport, Te Amo Beach is great for:

  • Swimming
  • Snorkeling
  • Relaxing

Soft sand and calm water make it a must-visit.

4. Explore Klein Bonaire

Take a water taxi to Klein Bonaire, a small uninhabited island just off the coast.

Expect:

  • Crystal clear water
  • Beautiful beaches
  • Incredible snorkeling

5. Watch the Sunset 🌅

Bonaire sunsets are something else.

Head to the west coast, grab a drink, and enjoy the view — simple, but unforgettable.

6. Visit the Salt Flats & Flamingos 🦩

Drive south and you’ll see:

  • Bright pink salt mountains
  • Flamingos in their natural habitat

A unique part of the island you shouldn’t miss.

7. Dive or Snorkel at Salt Pier

One of the most famous dive sites on the island.

Even from the surface, it’s impressive — huge pillars, lots of fish, and a very unique underwater landscape.

8. Windsurf at Sorobon 🌬️

On the east side of the island, Sorobon is known for its shallow, turquoise water.

Perfect for:

  • Beginners
  • Experienced windsurfers

9. Go on a Scenic Drive 🚗

Bonaire is perfect for exploring by car.

Drive north through Washington Slagbaai National Park or head south along the coast — both offer incredible views.

10. Visit Washington Slagbaai National Park 🌿

This national park covers a large part of the island.

You’ll find:

  • Nature
  • Wildlife
  • Hidden beaches

Plan a half-day or full-day trip.

11. Try Local Restaurants 🍽️

Bonaire has a surprisingly good food scene.

From beach bars to fine dining, there’s something for everyone.

12. Go Kayaking Through the Mangroves

Explore the mangrove forests on the east side.

It’s a calm, unique experience and a great way to see a different side of Bonaire.

13. Relax at Pink Beach

A quiet, scenic beach perfect for:

  • Relaxing
  • Swimming
  • Enjoying nature

14. Take a Boat Dive 🚤

While shore diving is the main attraction, boat dives offer access to sites around Klein Bonaire.

Definitely worth trying at least once.

15. Do Absolutely Nothing 😌

This might sound strange, but it’s one of the best things to do on Bonaire.

Slow down, enjoy the weather, and embrace the relaxed island lifestyle.

Our Experience

After living on Bonaire for several months, we realized that the island isn’t about rushing from one activity to the next.

It’s about:

  • Freedom
  • Simplicity
  • Being outdoors

That’s what makes Bonaire special — and why people keep coming back.

Where to Stay in Bonaire

Location plays a big role in how much you enjoy your trip.

We chose Belnem because it’s:

  • Close to beaches like Te Amo and Bachelor Beach
  • Near many dive sites
  • Quiet and relaxed

That’s also why we decided to buy our vacation home here — so we could enjoy this lifestyle ourselves and share it with others.

Final Thoughts

Bonaire may not have big attractions or busy nightlife — and that’s exactly the point.

If you’re looking for:

  • Nature
  • Diving
  • Relaxation

Then Bonaire is hard to beat.
